Australians take the quality of their morning meals very seriously, and the rest of us reap the benefit. All over Sydney you can enjoy the most spectacular breakfasts and brunches, but nobody does it quite like the cafés in Bondi – offering fresh, healthy and innovative food, a super friendly atmosphere, and always a relaxed, beachy vibe. Some days, I admit, I was tempted to eat twice just to try as many menus as possible. Here are five of my favourites… go, eat, and enjoy!
1 – Harry’s at Bondi Beach
2/136 Wairoa Ave, Bondi Beach NSW 2026, Australia

After my first breakfast here, I was dying to go back – but I had made a pact not to visit anywhere more than once. A return visit on my next trip to Sydney is guaranteed. Try the quinoa feta fritters with fattoush (a classic Middle Eastern salad) and house-made labneh (a soft cheese made from yoghurt) – it’s such a special way to start your morning. And my husband said the coffee was tops!
2 – Vida Surf Store Cafe

The Vida Surf Shop Cafe really does epitomise all that Bondi stands for – eating well and talking waves.
Stock up on natural sun-cream, rent a board, and enjoy one of the tastiest smoothie bowls around. It’s communal tables and nutrient-packed breakfasts at their best.
3 – Bills
79 Hall Street , Bondi Beach NSW 2026, Australia

I know and love Bill Granger’s restaurant in London, but somehow, it’s more special to dine at Bill’s in his homeland. A terrific place to meet friends for breakfast and choose from a varied menu that is bound to please everyone. I adored the buckwheat bowl with kefir, avocado, sprouting seeds, poached egg and red harissa. Absolutely delicious!
4 – Porch & Parlour
17-18/110 Ramsgate Ave, North Bondi NSW, 2026, Australia

How does homemade sprouted bread, toasted with avocado salsa, beetroot, pickled veg and kale chips sound? Porch and Parlour is packed with the most exciting breakfast options; the green breaky bowl, combining kale, spinach, quinoa, coriander, mint, parsley, poached eggs and avocado was my favourite, while my eldest loved the wild granola, made with buckwheat, cacao, coconut, inca berries, goji berries, tiger nuts, whole nuts and seeds with summer fruits and coconut yoghurt. Too many great options for one seating!
5 – Sādhanā Kitchen
132 Warners Avenue Bondi Beach, Australia

Sādhanā is legendary amongst vegan, raw food lovers and the breakfast there doesn’t disappoint. We fell hard for the mango & coconut summer chia parfait, and my daughters were eager to try what was described on the menu as the ‘best waffles ever’ topped with toasted coconut, lemon buttercream, maple syrup and cocowhip… decadent!
